Time: 0900 hrs
Place: Lift Lobby outside my apartment
I was waiting for the lift on this day and since my previous neighbour from Thailand had moved back to their homeland, it was vacant until last week. On this day, my new neighbour's door was wide opened and a 3-year old little girl was standing at the door way.
Little Girl (LG) : "Hi, where are you going?"
Me: "I'm going to the market...you want to come along?"
LG: "No, it's too early to go to the market."
Me: ??? "Oh ok, how are you?"
LG: "I'm good!"
Me: "Are you going for a swim?"
LG: "Yesssss..........."
Just then, a man popped in to take a peek at us.....
Me: "Hi! Are you the new neighbour?"
Man: "Yes we are, hi I'm Micky and she's Ginny (wife) .....this is....(faded)"

Me: ??? "Oh ok, how are you?"
LG: "I'm good!"
Me: "Are you going for a swim?"

Me: "Hi! Are you the new neighbour?"
Man: "Yes we are, hi I'm Micky and she's Ginny (wife) .....this is....(faded)"
Me: "Nice to meet you and welcome to the neighbourhood..where are you from?"
Micky: "We're from Texas and we'll gonna be here for 2 years...are we loud?"
Me: "Oh not at all, sometimes I wonder if there's anybody home...yak yak I do hear the children though."
Micky: "Yak Yak...Do let us know if we are too noisy....."
Me: " Yak Yak.......hey, got to go, do join us sometimes for BBQs & parties and get to each other better"
With that, I was glad I hit it off on a right note with my immediate neighbour.
Here in Singapore, so many families are keeping among themselves after work that they don't socialise that much unlike my younger days whereby we spent so much time hanging out with neighbours.
Guilin consists of residents from the international community and being so near to the Stadium, we have professional footballers from Thailand and Fiji too. It's fun to have neighbours from Korea, Japan, Wales, NZ, States just to name a few - though I must admit, some nice, some uh...not so.
Still, good neighbours will be friends for life :P
